CHINA: Portrait of a People
by Tom Carter
TRAVEL / PHOTOGRAPHY
PREVIEW IMAGES FOR MEDIA
Following in the footsteps of Marco
Polo and Mao Zedong, San Francisco native Tom Carter made his own Long March
throughout the entire People's Republic
– from the jungles of Yunnan to the
frozen borders of Siberia, across the scalding sands of Xinjiang to the neon
reflections of Hong Kong. On his route through over 200 cities and villages,
Carter left footprints in every province. Interest in China is on the rise in advance of the
2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, and China will soon be
the world's biggest tourist market. This small format book
fills the need for a better understanding of the diverse Chinese people.
The sample images below are

journey – so please contact us with any specific requests. A selection of
photos arranged by province is viewable at the author's website.
