You are invited to the launch of Kai-Yin Lo’s autobiography at Fine Art Asia 2019 in Hong Kong.

To launch Designing a Life: A Cross-Cultural Journey, Kai-Yin Lo will be in dialogue with Ms Suhanya Raffel, Executive Director of M+ Museum, and Dr Edmund Lee, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Design Centre. The talk will be moderated by Ms Marisa Yiu, Executive Director of the Design Trust initiative.

Entry is free of charge and open to all. Just register for an e-invitation to the fair and enter code E01055.

This talk will focus on the inspirational story of Kai-Yin Lo, whose life journey reflects the history and growth of Hong Kong. A historian educated at Cambridge and London Universities, Kai-Yin built her own future following an abrupt change in her family’s fortunes. After a first job at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong, she made her way to New York, working at Time Inc. and establishing a new life. Encouraged by the acceptance of her first collection of jewellery incorporating Asian antiques by Cartier New York, she pioneered a new category of semi-precious jewellery and became a designer of international renown, respected as an editor of influential books on Chinese furniture, the living environment, Song ceramics and contemporary Hong Kong design. In 2018 she was installed as the first Visiting Professor, Cross-Culture at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts London.

The dialogue will also assess Hong Kong’s position and future prospects as an art hub, design centre and creative explorations facilitator of cross-cultural exchanges in the Pearl River Delta and the Asia Pacific region.
