David Sutton was born and grew up in central England, in a city steeped in history — though not particularly famous for it — at least not until a lost king was discovered in an old car park.

Some of the history must have rubbed off although it was never apparent at school. Instead, he inherited his father’s love of trains and photography and, after three years studying design for print, moved to London to earn his chops in the publishing industry.

He worked for a West London newspaper, medical publications and finally numerous trade magazines. He moved to Hong Kong in 1986 where he has worked on business magazines for Far East Trade Press and The Economist Group as well as Hong Kong Tatler, Action Asia and the South China Morning Post. Over a forty-year career in publishing, he has held positions of art director, photographer, writer and production manager.

In 2019 he launched The Mango Road website in an effort to reinvent himself as a travel writer, but the pandemic put the kibosh on that idea so he spent that time writing and publishing Exploring Hong Kong’s New Territories.
